What's next for Vladimir Putin and Russia
An international tech-broligarchy, followed by the rise of a new version of Russia?
“He will die soon — that’s a fact — and it will all be over”, these were the words of the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy a few days ahead of the March 29th eclipse.
He was talking about Russian president Vladimir Putin. People have been speculating around Putin’s health for years. There have been some suggestions that he has cancer, among other things, and only a few years left to live.
What to believe? This is after all the former KGB-agent, during whose rule Russia has become a hotbed of misinformation and disinformation. Could there be any truth to the speculations, or is it simply more misinformation, more dust thrown into the air.
Astrology is one tool to investigate what might be going on, and coming up for Russia and the Russian president.
But, there are also conflicting views on Vladimir Putin’s birth chart. It has been suggested that the time, and even the date itself, are wrong. That this is yet another smoke-screen. More misinformation.
Why would he release false information? Perhaps because unlike many western leaders the leaders of Russia have allegedly used astrology and are aware of its power.
In the mid-1990s, after the fall of the Soviet Union, the deputy chief of then president Boris Yeltsin’s security services was said to have drawn up astrological charts for his boss and also, to have used a sort of shamanic technique to figure out what others, including foreign leaders, were thinking.
Putin himself would probably have been aware of and exposed to the occult and astrological experimentation in the Soviet Union. And he has created a country where misinformation, disinformation and propaganda are a key to controlling the population and to sowing dissent and division abroad.
So it is possible that he would be aware of the power of astrology and would have released false details around his date and time of birth.
But, as the eminent late astrologer and philosopher, Geoffrey Cornelius, has argued, false charts can work too.
Putin’s birth chart
The chart we have for Vladimir Putin (see below) gives us four natal planets in the mystical and spiritual 12th house. The house of madness, hospitals and prisons, and the house which speaks of the connection we all have with the larger reality out there.
The Russian president is said to be deeply influenced by mysticism and the occult. There have been several press reports about him consulting shamans in Mongolia and Siberia about the war in Ukraine.
This chart shows us a power hungry Pluto in Leo, in the 10th house of status, and right on the Midheaven. The destructive South Node is two degrees away in Leo.
The South Node in traditional astrology is a point that weakens that which it touches. If it conjoins a malefic it turns down the volume of the planet’s potentially negative influence. If it’s connected to a benefic, a positive chart point, it makes that chart point less powerful.
So in this chart we have the weakening South Node in the 9th house next to Putin’s Pluto and MC. He might not reach the height he aspires to or get the power that he craves.
Putin’s current astrology
At the moment Pluto is squaring the Ascendant/Descendant axis from the 3rd house.
This house stands for communication, but also for neighbours and siblings. So something in that sector (perhaps Russia’s neighbouring countries) is causing a profound and lasting change to how the world sees Putin and to his relationships. No surprises there.
Mars is currently transiting through his 9th house, the foreign sector in his chart. During the first week in June 2025 the warrior planet will cross his Midheaven and Pluto/South Node. That could mean he is seen as more war-mongering than normal, or that the Mars side of him stands out in some way.
In this chart his natal Mars is found in Sagittarius in the 2nd house, that could give us another clue to what this transit might mean. It could speak of him being seen as asserting himself, related to financial issues and foreign powers.
Around the same time Chiron and Venus transiting through his 6th house will oppose his Libra Neptune in the 12th. Perhaps his mythical dream for his nation will be challenged by something happening to his health.
At this time transiting Saturn and Neptune are very close to each other in the first degrees of Aries, in Putin’s 5th house. Whenever these two planets meet big things tend to happen in Russia.
They are starting to form a sextile to Putin’s Gemini Moon in the 7th, a point that will later be crossed by Uranus in June 2026 after the planet of sudden shocks and insights has moved into Gemini. We also have Pluto trining Putin’s Moon from the 3rd house over the next two years.
This could suggest an emotional shock of some kind, related to one to one friendships or to open enemies. The sequence of events might perhaps be sped up by something in his 5th house, his children or his investments in the stock market.
As Pluto is involved there is some fated change happening related to neighbours, siblings, the media or communication. Or to the Russian president’s mental health or physical health (the ruler of his 3rd house is Saturn, which sits next to the Sun in the 12th house). All of this will have an impact on his relationships and how he feels about them (Moon, 7th house)
What is coming up for Russia astrologically
On the 27th of April the Pluto/Mars opposition will fall very close to the Ascendant/Descendant axis in the chart for the version Russia that was born after the fall of the Soviet Union. Just like it does in Germany’s birth chart as well.
Mercury will be on the Midheaven.
Saturn/Venus and the North Node and Neptune in the last degrees of Pisces and beginning of Aries will start to form a square to the country’s 6th house Capricorn Sun, the ruler of the chart, from the 9th house of the foreigner.
Does this show a resistance to Russian expansionism?
The reason for looking at the transits on this date is covered in this earlier post about why it looks like Europe might need to prepare for war.
Russia might feel a need to prove itself on the world stage, or announce an aggressive move, when Mars crosses its Ascendant during the last week of April and first week of May 2025.
And the next few years look turbulent for the country.
As mentioned we have a near Saturn/Neptune conjunction in Aries this summer. More about what that has meant for Russia previously in my post here.
On the 12th of July 2025 Neptune and Saturn will be just a few minutes away from each other in Russia’s 9th house. In mundane astrology this house can represent religion, the judiciary, the country’s relation to foreign nations, or the country’s beliefs.
This conjunction sends a trine to Russia’s first house Chiron, activating a wound around how the country perceives itself to be seen on the world stage. It also loosely squares Russia’s Capricorn Sun and its North Node in the 6th house.
On this day Mars sits right on top of Jupiter in the 2nd house and is moving through a square to Mercury and the natal Mars in the 5th house. Uranus has just moved into Gemini in Russia’s 11th house of groups and friendships and will start to square the country’s 2nd house Moon the following summer.
This all speaks of another period of profound change. Possibly related to the country’s finances (2nd house Jupiter) and how the people, the work force or army, see their country (6th house Sun).
The progressed chart shows the Moon crossing the 5th house Pluto in April 2025, at that time the progressed Venus also sits on top of the country’s Capricorn Sun in the 6th house. This could mean the emotions of the people of Russia might be very focused on that 5th house gambling Pluto in Scorpio, a Pluto that might crave wealth and power. Venus joining the 6th house Sun could suggest a victory of some kind, possibly in Ukraine.

Starting on the 29th of March 2026 Pluto will cross Saturn in the 6th house, which represents the work force and the army. Then Pluto will cross the Descendant, speaking of a profound change to the country’s relationships. This is part of a major slow moving Pluto transit playing out over the next five years.
The middle of April 2026 could be a very important time for the country as both Mars and Saturn will cross Russia’s Midheaven around this time. In 2026 we also have the progressed Sun joining progressed Saturn in the 7th house.
All of the above could speak of solidifying the change that has been occurring around relationships with other nations, bringing a focus around constriction when it comes to relationships or seeing the country established as some kind of authority on the world stage. It could speak of some kind of deal with the US (see the composite analysis at the end of the post)
After transiting Pluto has moved into the 7th house of relationships it will be moving towards an opposition to the country’s inner wound Chiron in the first house in March 2028.
This could speak of a profound change around how the country sees its wounds, possibly related to one of its allies or open enemies or to action taken by another nation.
Later in 2028 Neptune will begin a slow transit across Russia’s Midheaven, dissolving the country as it’s been seen and the role it’s played on the world stage up until now.
This could also speak of a change to the country’s leadership.
Pluto also sextiles the Midheaven and Neptune from the 7th house of relationships at this time, suggesting the country might find new friends.
And Neptune forms a trine to Russia’s natal Chiron too, potentially helping to heal and soothe its wounds.

This is also a time where we see significant transits to the chart of Sergey Kiriyenko, the propaganda master who has been described as someone who might take over after Putin.
He became the youngest prime minister of Russia at the age of 35 in 1998. Since then he has been part of the inner circle around Vladimir Putin, as the head of the nuclear energy company Rosatom until 2016 and later playing a leading role in the Russian occupied territories in Ukraine.
He has been described as a technocrat with no outspoken political beliefs and the “architect” of Russian disinformation. His son runs the Russian social media platform Vkontakte. And according the Wall Street Journal Kiriyenko and Elon Musk have been in regular contact since 2022.
In early June 2028 Kiriyenko’s chart is extremely activated. He will have Pluto on his Saturn, opposing his North Node and loosely squaring his Neptune in Scorpio.
A Saturn/Chiron conjunction in Taurus plugs into this pattern and squares his Saturn and opposes Neptune.
Uranus conjuncts his Mars and loosely squares his Pluto and Venus in Virgo.
Previously, in July this year(!), Uranus will cross his Gemini Moon and Pluto will oppose his Leo Sun. Mars is on his natal Pluto.
This is also when Saturn and Neptune almost meet in Aries, which as mentioned has so far been a significant astrological occurrence for Russia. This conjunction trines his Sun!
Could we see him become leader then, this summer, and later losing power in 2028?
One possible scenario is that we could, starting this summer, have the tech broligarchy in charge with Musk in the US and Kiriyenko on Russia. Which fits with Pluto settling into its transit through Aquarius un-earthing fears and exposing problems related to wealth disparity and new technology.
The composite chart between Sergey Kiriyenko and Elon Musk is also lit up in July 2025. The near Saturn/Neptune conjunction falls very close to the composite Saturn in Aries. And in early September 2025 Jupiter will ping almost the whole composite chart, from a conjunction with the composite Sun/Moon in Cancer.
The many rebirths of Russia
Russia has several birth charts, representing different version of the country.
There is the chart from 862 and the establishment of the Rus’ state, the chart from 1721 and the establishment of the Russian Empire, the chart from 1922, the formation of the Soviet Union, and the chart I’ve been spending the most time looking at here, the chart from 1991, following the collapse of the Soviet Union.
The 1991 chart has an Ascendant at 5’22 degrees Leo with Saturn on the Descendant and Chiron near the Ascendant.
It also has heavy placements in the 5th and the 6th house.
It is perhaps a country that, just like the US, thinks it wants to be of service (6th house). It has a serious ambitions to do this (Sun, North Node, Uranus and Neptune in Capricorn in the 6th house.
The rest of the world might not appreciate this type of “service” though, either from the US or from Russia. But these are countries with the Sun in a cardinal sign, so they might feel a need to dictate to the world how it should be and behave. “For its own good.”
The chart from 1991 has a tight Pluto/Venus conjunction in Scorpio in the 5th house of children, creativity and financial gambling – and Mercury and Mars in Sagittarius in the same house. This might reveal the country’s traditional love of music and the arts, but also its attitude to money and wealth since its creation.
The Moon and Jupiter both fall in the 2nd house in Virgo. The concern might be to scrub away (Virgo) the financial hardships of the past (2nd house), by a meticulous and pedantic (Virgo) focus on becoming very wealthy (Jupiter).
But it is Chiron on the Ascendant and Saturn on the Descendant that really stand out in this chart.
There is a wounding around how the rest of the world sees this version of Russia. With this chart it hasn’t been able to become the Empire it once was and now wants to be again.
What is interesting is that on the 27th of April 2025, which is a possible start date for a wider conflict between Russia and Europe, the other charts for this ancient Empire are activated too.
The first chart, from 862, representing a much smaller Russia, has a Jupiter return in the 7th house, and all the activity Pisces/Aries att his time oppose this early chart’s Sun/Saturn conjunction in Libra in the 9th house..
The transits to the chart of the Russian Empire, from 1721, are interesting too. On the 27th of April it has Uranus moving away from a conjunction with a 4th house Neptune. A shock to (or shocking reactivation of) the dream and the vision of Empire.
Jupiter is very close to the Descendant, highlighting the other, this Empire’s allies and/or enemies. This version of Russia was a friend of Britain. Its royal family was one of the great royal families of Europe, closely related to many of the other royal houses.
Pluto trines the natal Venus in Libra in the 9th house of this chart from the first house. This lovely Libra could perhaps speak of the reverence for the higher learning, the arts, literature and music in Russia and throughout the country’s history.
The transits to the USSR chart at this time is Uranus crossing its Taurus Moon in the 10th house. A shock to the emotional legacy of this nation. Mercury sits on top of its Chiron in the 8th house, possibly highlighting the wounds that were caused by the mass murder, displacement and killing in the Soviet Union.
Could we eventually see a different Russia after this turbulent period, perhaps after 2028? A Russia that will form new and surprising alliances? The astrology speaks of surprising twists and turns on the road ahead.
The composite chart between the US and Russia suggests a challenge to the relationship between the two countries in late June 2025 when Uranus will be opposing the composite moon from the 8th house. As this falls across the financial axis, it could speak of a financial shock of some sort, or a shocking death.
Later at the end of April 2026 Saturn will start to cross the composite Descendant and oppose the composite Libra Sun from the 7th house. As it does so it will also trine the composite Saturn in the third house and the composite Jupiter in the 11th house. This could suggest that the relationship between the two nations is officially solidified in some way.
